Holiday Craft Ideas

From making garland out of dehydrated orange slices, cinnamon sticks and popcorn, to preparing homemade gifts and delicious dishes for family and friends, the holidays provide a fun opportunity to exercise that creative muscle while making memories and enjoying family traditions.

Here are five easy eco-friendly craft ideas to consider for a slow afternoon of crafting and snacking with the whole family, including the littles!

1. DIY Gift Sacks

This idea from Lovely Indeed is as simple as taking your favorite festive stamp and putting it on a regular brown paper bag for a cute and thoughtful take on gift wrapping! Add some twine or your favorite ribbon to make it even more special.

2. Twig Ornaments

With a block of wood, twigs, paint and glue, this idea from The Turquoise Home is not only super simple but a great way to encourage the kids to be resourceful and use what they can find around them to create the most amazing things.

3. Wood Block Snowman

Using distressed wood or paint, create a snowman using buttons, a doll hat, and ribbon! Find the full tutorial at Anika’s DIY Life.

4. Mason Jar Vases
There are hundreds of ways to decorate a Mason jar for any occasion, and this image from Design Improved is just one example. Using paint, glue, felt, flowers, twine, ribbon and countless other decorative things, you can create unique personalized gifts or centerpieces.

5. Peppermint Salt & Sugar Scrubs

Making homemade skincare products is not only easy but oftentimes better quality than what you’ll find at the stores. Salt scrubs are useful for calloused or oily skin because the granules are sharper and more drying than sugar, and they also contain more mineral benefits. Sugar is better for more sensitive skin and is more moisturising than salt.

Measure out two cups of either finely ground sea salt (with a high mineral content for even more skin benefits) or good quality sugar and add ½ to one cup of any base oil (jojoba, coconut, sweet almond, etc.) and 8-12 drops of peppermint essential oil. Mix it all together and package it up in a jar for an excellent DIY holiday gift.

Have a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
